Porcelain veneers are thin sections of high-quality ceramic that are bonded to the natural teeth to give them a smooth, clean appearance. They can be used to correct a number of problems, which makes them the best option for performing a complete smile makeover.
Porcelain veneers are a great way to repair any discrepancies that are presently being showcased with your smile. Such as discrepancies as uneven teeth, damaged teeth or even teeth that have become discolored can be rectified with porcelain veneers.
These veneers are applied to an individual’s teeth. These veneers are applied by utilizing a bonding process that is unique by all means. The process is not evasive, and most patients report that there is not much pain associated with the procedure either. Veneers can be used in order to reshape an individual’s teeth, smooth out the contours of an individual’s lips, and improve an individual’s overall appearance.
Our dentists generally utilize veneers for a plethora of cosmetic procedures which include:
· RECTIFYING A CHIPPED OR BROKEN TOOTH
· ALIGNING CROOKED TEETH
. FILLING IN SPACES BETWEEN TEETH
· ENCLOSING UNSIGHTY GAPS
· ELIMINATING GUM FILLED SMILES
· EVENING OUT TEETH
· SHELTERING DISCOLORATION OF AN INDIVIDUAL'S TEETH
· IMPROVING AN INDIVIDUAL'S SMILE
The veneers are made from two different materials which are both porcelain as well as resin composites. When an individual is opting to utilize these veneers as a means to repair an individual’s teeth, then the color is matched to that persons tooth color, following a professional cleaning that can be obtained through our offices.
There are two visits that need to be carried out in order for an individual to obtain veneers. During the initial exam, the individual’s teeth will be examined in order to clarify their health. The dentist will also evaluate if the individual is a prime candidate for the veneer procedure. After deciding that the individual is a good candidate for veneers, then we will discuss the proper shade that the patient requires as well as what the individual can expect when the veneers are being applied to their teeth.
During the initial visit we will also ask the patients permission to make a mold of their teeth, in order to ensure that the veneers will fit their teeth adequately. We may be able to fit patients with temporary veneers; however this is only if we have the veneers in our office. We opt to carry out this process in order to ensure that our patients will be confident when adorning porcelain veneers.
The second visit simply applies to the veneers being applied to the patient’s teeth, thus giving them a vibrant smile that they can be proud of.
· CHANGE THE SHAPE OF TEETH LIKE ADDING LENGTH OR WIDTH
· IMPROVE SYMMETRY AND ORIENTATION; VENEERS ADDED TO RE-SHAPE OR RE-ALIGN CROOKED OR ODDLY SHAPED TEETH
. REPLACE WORN TOOTH ENAMEL
· REPAIR FRACTURES AND CHIPS
· CHANGE THE COLOR OF TEETH(WHITEN)
· COVER MAJOR STRAINS OR DISCOLORATIONS
· CREATE A UNIFORM APPEARANCE
Dental ceramics are harder than tooth enamel and resist cracking or breaking. If properly cared for, they will last many years. These ceramics are also more stain-resistant than natural enamel. Unless the surface of the veneer is damaged, the color will not fade or change over time.
Trained cosmetic dentists can manipulate the ceramic used to make the veneers to replicate virtually any shade or translucency, giving porcelain veneers the appearance of natural teeth.
At Hastings-on-Hudson Dental Arts, it is our main goal that patients be able to choose whether to disclose that they have had cosmetic dentistry work done. Many patients tell us that their veneers looked so natural, that friends first asked if they had changed their hair color or lost weight, instead of pinpointing their new smile.
Many people have heard that you must have your teeth “ground down” in order to have porcelain veneers applied. This is not the case. At most, a patient might need to have a very thin surface layer of enamel reduced slightly. In some cases they can be applied with no tooth preparation.
At Hastings-on-Hudson Dental Arts, our professionals have perfected a technique that allows placement of very thin porcelain veneers (0.2 mm – less than half the thickness of a fingernail) with either no tooth preparation or very little tooth preparation required. Whenever possible, Dr. Shay Markovitch prefers to leave the patient’s original tooth structure intact, to preserve the tooth’s strength and integrity.
Very few cosmetic dentists have the skill to do this. Fewer can do it with the range of different ceramics that we offer. Dr. Shay Markovitch has extensive experience working with a number of different materials and can choose the material best suited to each individual case.
